Frames and temporary supports establish the hull's working shape.

Plywood panels are brought together and checked along the developing hull.

Clamps hold the forward panels while alignment and fairness are refined.

Bulkheads and internal structure begin defining the usable interior.

Interior components are fitted before surface preparation and finishing.

Cloth is laid over the hull to prepare the exterior composite skin.

The exterior is sealed, faired, and worked toward a clean continuous surface.

Reference lines and panel geometry are transferred before assembly begins.

The hull is moved outdoors for curing and a full surface check.

Protective coatings bring the finished hull form into focus.

Gunwale components are fitted and held in place for final bonding.

The completed skiff shows the sheer, chine, and final painted finish.

The completed boat is secured on its trailer and ready for the water.
Our story / built on service
Outlier Boat Works is a new marine business. The experience behind it was earned long before the doors opened.
Founder Kenneth Kaney spent 20 years serving as a paramedic—a career that demanded calm judgment, close attention, clear communication, and accountability when details could not be overlooked.
He also owned and operated a construction company, developing practical experience in planning, materials, fabrication, repairs, and seeing difficult projects through from the first measurement to the finished result.
Building has always been the common thread. Today, that experience comes together at Outlier Boat Works, where Kenneth builds original boats and repairs or modifies existing ones. The work includes fiberglass and gelcoat repair, custom hatch building, and thoughtful improvements that make a boat stronger, more functional, or better suited to its owner.
Every project begins with an honest assessment and is approached with patience, practical judgment, and respect for the customer's boat.

Common questions
Send photos first whenever possible. That helps us identify the right next step before you move the boat or schedule an inspection.
We are based in Valdosta, Georgia. Most boats are brought to us, and selected travel inspections or other arrangements are considered within a 300-mile service area.
The normal arrangement is for the customer to bring the boat to us. Travel inspections and limited off-site work are considered case by case based on distance, access, weather, and the work required.
New custom builds are considered from 6 to 24 feet. Repair eligibility depends on the location, access, and size of the damaged area, so larger or more involved fiberglass repairs are reviewed individually.
A preliminary photo review and a standard in-shop estimate are free. If you need a detailed written repair plan, measurements, or design documentation, that work starts at $250 and is quoted before it begins.
Custom boat builds require a 50% deposit to reserve the build slot and purchase materials. Larger or longer projects may include written progress payments, with the final balance due before pickup. Repair deposits are set case by case, and completed work is paid before the boat is released.
Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Visits and inspections are best scheduled in advance so we can give your project our full attention.
The Outlier approach
Original boat concepts shaped by their mission, developed with disciplined detail, and carried forward with buildability in mind.
Every decision begins with how the boat will be used, where it will operate, and what it needs to do well.
Hull, structure, layout, and onboard systems are considered as one coordinated design—not isolated parts.
Practical choices and honest priorities guide the work from the first line to the final build package.
